Georgia Amendments that Expired 1/1/2010

It is easy to forget that some of the Georgia Amendments expired on Jan 1 2010. The step riser height and the Minum Tread Depth have Expired.

Below is a copy and paste from the ammendments.

SECTION R311 MEANS OF EGRESS
*Revise Section R311.5.3.1 ‘Riser height’ to add exception as follows:
R311.5.3.1 Riser height.
Exception:
The first and the last riser may vary by an amount no greater than ¾ inch (19 mm) from the other risers in the flight of stairs.
(Effective January 1, 2007; AMENDMENT EXPIRES JANUARY 1, 2010)
*Revise first sentence of Section R311.5.3.2 ‘Tread depth’ to read as follows:
R311.5.3.2 Tread depth.
The minimum tread depth shall be 9 inches (229 mm). The tread depth…

Recycling at it’s best

Well bought some parts for my BCS 2 Wheel tractor on eBay. They were in Brasstown NC which required a trip through Elijay, Blue Ridge and Murphy NC.

The guy I bought the parts from raised chickens and lots of other critters. He made chicken coops out of old satellite dishes. I guess you could call this a “dish network”. He had hundreds of chickens and his ebay ID was roosterdude

But on the way home I found a recycled school bus. Remember you can click on these photo’s for bigger ones

Bracing

Probably the only bracing is the horizontal siding. You could probably hook a cable to it, straighten it with a tractor and add diagonal bracing some 100+ years after it was built. Click on the smal picture to get a bigger one.

Well guys, some of your have already had this happen. My last day with Cherokee County will be 12/31/2009. It has been lots of fun with the building department. I would give anything to meet the county marshal on some illegal construction.

I’m feeling a little blue, but I have been very blessed. I’m by no means wealthy, but this is not going to cause me to be homeless.

I will be moving/downsizing from this house in Bartow County

To my new old house built in 1890 in Cherokee County

Just kidding. My wife told me she would never live in it. I kinda like this old house.

Is this for security, green or something Illegal ?

I can’t figure this one out. It is in a bad neighborhood. It’s the street I grew up on. We had to chain our car batteries down and we also left our cars unlocked so they wouldn’t break the windows. I can’t figure out what this is. Maybe they got some kind of illegal lab operation in there. Click on these small photos for a bigger one.

Here is a close up of the front door. It looks like the door on a freezer or a container for a bomb. this question if it’s an illegal lab operation.

I thought it might have been some new “GREEN” stuff, but I see a very old air conditioner is still in place.

Garage Narrow Walls

This is my next door Neighbors House in Bartow County. It was probably built in 1999. She hit the gas instead of the brakes. This garage has 2 headers so this could have been real bad. The bottom plate did move. She was quoted very high rates from contractors to fix it. I just took a sledge hammer and pounde it back. It took about an hour.

Why we Need Narrow Wall Bracing

Now Bolts might have helped, but if bolts were there, the studs might have seperated from the bottom plate causing as much or more damage. I like the brackets and bolts shown below. I wish the code would require these.

Arc Fault Trips With Vacuum Cleaner

I have one major home builder that tells me he is opposed to arc fault breakers being used throughout the house as is required starting 1/1/2010. He says his cleaning lady can’t plug her vaccuum cleaner into a bedroom outlet becuase it allways trips the arc fault. I WONDER WHY!!!
