@Marshall:

I just want to make it clear that this site is not associated with cherokee county. I being the owner of the site was an inspector for cherokee county.

I set up this site hoping to get some discussion amongst building inspectors and code officials so maybe we can gets some consistencey

The code is somewhat vague. It would be easy if the code would say “vinyl pools don’t need a grid” or “vinyl pools do need a grid”.
I don’t remember id the pool was viny or fiberglass, but I have a posting at
http://www.inspectorblues.com/blog/?p=50

I had one electrion quote code from the 2008 NEC handbook as if it were code where it talks about welded wire for a grid. The code never mentions welded wire. If you read the disclaimer in the front of the handbook, you wouldn’t want to use it.

Then you have phrase about structural steel being available. Does that mean it comes out of the basket for attaching to, or does it mean I can go to Home Depot and buy it ?
